Frequently Asked Questions

What is dental plaque?

Dental plaque is a sticky white to light yellow biofilm that collects around and between teeth. If is not removed and left to accumulate, it will harden and turn into calculus or tartar.

What are the consequences of dental plaque?

The bacteria in dental plaque releases acids and attack the enamel surfaces of teeth that eventually results in tooth decay and cavities. Dental plaque is also a major cause of bad breath. Gum disease begins when plaque adheres below the visible edge of your gums. It is the most common dental problem. There are two main types of gum disease - Gingivitis and Periodontitis.

What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums which may appear slightly red initially. In a more advanced stage, your gums will become red, puffy and bleed easily during brushing.

What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis is gingivitis left untreated. It is the inflammation and infection of the periodontal ligaments and bones that support the teeth. This can eventually result in the loss of one or more teeth.
